My life is utter chaos. That is why I picked up this book. My stress level is through the roof, partly because I have so much to do and so little time. This book is wonderful at laying out how and why routines enrich your life. Long ago, when I worked a 9-5 job I naturally had a set routine for every day of the week and it helped my relax and find time for myself. Unfortunately, I am now disabled, have randomly scheduled doctors appts every week, am a writer, reader and blogger. This book only helps me so far, due to these facts. Creativity never follows a schedule. When it strikes, you jump on it and everything else takes second chair. Being ill is unpredictable. I never know how I feel or how long I'll feel well enough to do anything. I cannot cook, clean, drive, and have trouble keeping the kids on a schedule. I cannot exercise or plan a diet, due to my health. This book is excellent for people who have regular jobs and can complete normal tasks. It doesn't really apply to someone like me, who never knows what each day will bring. But I know that I must set routines for the kids. They follow my messed-up life, but need stability. I must force myself to set times for them and keep at it. The book is slightly repetitive, but powerful. It makes perfect sense and I suggest it for those who are able to plan for every day.Product details

I've always been aware of the power of habit. However the things Charles Duhigg teaches in his book/column are pretty basic and ineffective. Ian communicates some stuff in this book that is truly life changing.
